Tips for Applying to a Central Placement

– The board allows co-op students to apply to only one Central Placement each semester. This means, for example, that you could apply to a St. Joseph’s placement or to a Hamilton Health Sciences placement – but not to both. However, within most Central Placement organizations there is a choice of placement options.

– Some of the descriptors being forwarded include employer contact info. However, please do not contact these employers through the application process. These employers have chosen to go through the Central Placement process because they want to decrease the amount of inquiries received from co-op teachers and potential co-op students during this time. There is a designated representative at the board who handles all contact with these employers during the application process. If you have questions about a particular Central Placement let me know and we can forward the question appropriately.

– Once you have submitted a Central Placement application, start preparing your Portfolio. Come and see the Co-op teacher for feedback on your Portfolio and some advice about how to present it during your interview. Sometimes the time between when we are notified about your interview and when it is can be very short – so any preparations that we can do in advance will be helpful on the chance that you are asked for an interview with little notice!

Come and see the Co-op teacher for more placement specific tips! (lboehm@hwdsb.on.ca)
